Christians are used to seeing a blue-eyed blond Jesus
going about his business. One only has to look at the images that adorn
many of our churches. It is slowly but surely beginning to dawn on us
that Christians of other nations and races have a different image of
what Jesus looks like.
When one looks at this scenario, it is easy to see the biblical story of
Jesus' first visit to Jerusalem. When the visit was over and the parents
were on the way home, Jesus was nowhere to be seen. A frantic search
finally located him in the temple. To the astonishment of the parents,
here was the 12 year old Jesus lecturing the priests and Pharisees.
Does this African scenario make one think of the same story depicted in
a different setting? |
